Corelation between gaming habits and students performance

credit to: mr.kevin, mr.reggie, and me of course..

we've done this minuscule, unimportant survey during our 1st semester as a part of our academic english course. here goes the report.

People improve their abilities through the things they interact with – especially for young people. Interactivity can stimulate certain parts of the brain, potentially improving one’s capabilities, like problem solving skills and thought process, depending on the exposure and the frequency. The more interactive the media, the stronger the stimulation. Video games present a lot of interactivity – and stimulation - depending on their genre. However:
Can having a certain video gaming habit improve a University student’s academical grade performance?
In this case, habits covers the type of games played, for how long and how frequent.

The survey was conducted on 20 university students, off and on Joseph Wibowo Center. The range of the survey was between second year students to fifth year students.

From the surveys conducted, we could see that RPG and strategy games are the most popularly played games. These types of games need fast and structured thinking process and also some degree of problem solving skills. Frequently playing these games can train students to think quickly and solve problems, improving those areas, which can be applied in real life cases, like doing an exam. Quick thinking and some problem solving skills can help students tackle through assignments and do well in exams.

Second, the duration and frequency of playing games are related to the amount of effect from gaming. By playing in small, controlled durations per week the effect of gaming can be more effective, because there is sufficient stimulation to improve the student’s capabilities (thought process and problem solving skills) but not so much that it becomes a distraction.
Just like frequently lifting weights can improve one’s arm strength, by playing frequently the student is indirectly training his/her thinking, improving his/her thought process and problem solving skill. The more frequent it is done, the better those aspects become. Again, this can be applied to doing assignments and exams, which can garner a better result because the student can perform better during the exams.
Playing rarely with minimal durations, and the effect from gaming is minimal. Playing too frequently for extended durations and the student gets distracted, worsening his/her academic performance. Playing regularly for a limited duration is the most effective, because the student’s thinking is trained enough but not so it distracts the student from academic work.

Third, most people who play RPG and strategy games, in a regular and controlled duration, has grades above B. People who rarely play or play too much performs worse, having grades below B. This is because they don’t have enough exposure or have too much exposure that they don’t perform too well academically, hence worse grades. On the other hand, students who play regularly has better grades because their thinking process has been trained regularly from playing games, enabling them to perform better academically.

From our survey and analysis, we concluded that having a good video gaming habit can improve a University student’s academic performance. A good gaming habit involves 1) playing RPG and strategy games, which require the student to think, 2) playing in small durations and spread out in a week.

udah rambutan, jenggotan, kumisan pula...

sampai sekarang, si makhluk tetap menjalani proses evolusinya..

think..

Bikin komputer dengan budget 5 juta

inilah hasil iseng2 dari temen gw (Reggie-san)

Buat home use, untuk nge-game bakal kurang mengigit specnya.
kita pake AMD Based, sudah disesuaikan sehingga bisa nyolok semua komponennya

Suneohair album Kanashimi, Skirt

klo menurut gw, musiknya indie pop rock, pop jazz, dll.
Sampel 3 lagunya dari album Kanashimi yaitu Waltz, Happy End (ft. Azumi), dan Coupe: Suneohair

The Adams lagu Just, Jikalau

purpose & vision

Suatu hari, kira-kira pukul 23.13 WIB, +7 GMT

X : oi
B_: oit
X : gimana perkembangan?
B_: retired dulu gw..
X : segini doang nih?
B_: bwakakakak

yah begitulah..
purpose is tobe discovered, yet vision is to be created
purpose remain constant, vision might be changing

coba,, pernahkah anda melontarkan pertanyaan2 seperti:
Why am i here?
Why do I exist?
what am i here for?
What have i done this for?
What do i want to create?

think..
